Who is this for?

Professionals with a Thunderbolt 5-equipped laptop who want the absolute best dock available right now. Thunderbolt 5 is currently found in select MacBook Pro M4 Pro/Max models and a small number of high-end Windows laptops — if you're unsure whether your laptop supports TB5, check the port markings or your laptop's spec sheet. Works with Thunderbolt 4 laptops too, but at TB4 speeds. Not the right pick for MacBook Air users or standard USB-C laptops — the CalDigit TS3 Plus or Anker PowerExpand are better value for those setups.

MacBook Pro M4 Pro / Max (TB5) Thunderbolt 4 laptops (at TB4 speeds) Windows TB5 laptops macOS 15+ Windows 10 / 11 Dual 4K/60Hz monitors Single 8K display

Desklab Expert's Take

Thunderbolt 5 doubles the bandwidth of TB4 — from 40Gbps to 80Gbps standard, with Bandwidth Boost pushing to 120Gbps for demanding workloads. In practical terms, this means the dock can run dual 4K/60Hz displays, transfer data at full speed, and charge your laptop at 140W simultaneously without any bottleneck. The active cooling fan is worth knowing about — it does run audibly under full load, which is the one trade-off versus passive docks. If your laptop supports TB5 and you need maximum performance, this is the dock to buy. If you're on a MacBook Air or standard USB-C laptop, save your money and buy the CalDigit TS3 Plus instead.
