Best monitor arms for Australia in 2026

Buying guide 9 min read · Updated April 2026

A monitor arm is the single best way to reclaim desk space and fix your posture at the same time. But there's a huge range of quality — from arms that drift and sag within a month to ones that hold position for years. This guide tells you what to look for and which arms are actually worth buying in Australia.

01 — What to check before buying

Most people buy a monitor arm based on looks and price — then discover it won't hold their monitor, won't fit their desk, or has the wrong VESA pattern. Check these four things first:

Monitor weight
Check your monitor's weight in its specs. Most consumer monitors are 3–7kg. The arm's stated weight range must include your monitor — not just reach it. An arm rated to "up to 7kg" holding a 6.8kg screen is at its limit and will drift.

VESA pattern
Check the back of your monitor for a square bolt pattern — 75×75mm or 100×100mm are the two most common. All our arms list compatible VESA patterns. Note: some monitors have no VESA mount at all (common on budget screens).

Desk thickness
Clamp-mount arms require a desk edge between 10mm and 70mm thick. Measure your desk before ordering. Very thick desks or desks with thick front lips may need a grommet-mount instead.

Reach and range
Consider how far from the desk edge your monitor needs to sit, and how high you need it. Most arms offer 360–500mm of horizontal reach and ±45° of tilt.
DESKLAB TIP
The most overlooked check is monitor weight. Cheap arms use spring tension that weakens over time — after 6 months they start slowly drooping. Ergotron uses spring mechanisms rated to last years under full load.

02 — Our top picks

Best overall
Ergotron LX Single Monitor Arm

The benchmark. Ergotron's Constant Force spring mechanism holds position precisely under any weight within its range — no drift, no sagging. The finish quality is excellent, cable management is built in, and the adjustment range covers virtually every monitor size and height need.

Max 11.3kg VESA 75×75 / 100×100 482mm reach Black / White
DESKLAB NOTE
Handles monitors up to 11.3kg — covers virtually every consumer and professional display available in Australia. If in doubt, buy this.

Ergotron LX Dual Stacking Arm

Two independently adjustable arms on a single desk clamp. Stack monitors vertically or spread them side-by-side. Same Constant Force mechanism — holds position perfectly on both screens.

Max 7.9kg per arm 457mm reach per arm Single clamp
DESKLAB NOTE
Note the 7.9kg per arm limit — lighter than the single LX. Most 27" monitors are 5–6kg so this covers the majority of setups.

Budget pick
Amazon Basics Single Monitor Arm

A capable entry-level arm for monitors under 6kg. Doesn't match Ergotron's build quality or longevity, but for a lighter monitor and a tighter budget it's a genuine improvement over a standard stand.

Max 6.8kg 360mm reach
DESKLAB NOTE
Fine for monitors under 5kg. At 6–6.8kg it will hold position initially but may start drifting within 12 months. If you're keeping this arm for years, save up for the LX.

Heavy monitors
Ergotron HX Monitor Arm

Built specifically for large, heavy monitors — ultrawides, 32"+ screens, and curved displays. Supports up to 19.1kg with the same reliable spring mechanism.

Max 19.1kg 460mm reach Best for 34"+
DESKLAB NOTE
If your monitor is over 8kg — typically any 32"+ curved ultrawide — this is your arm. Overkill for smaller screens, but essential for the larger displays gaining popularity in creative and developer workstations.

04 — Frequently asked questions

Will a monitor arm damage my desk?
Clamp mounts can leave a small mark on soft wood desks over time. Use a small rubber pad under the clamp jaw, or opt for a grommet mount that bolts through a hole in the desk instead.
Do monitor arms come with cables?
No — arms come with the mounting hardware only. You'll need your own DisplayPort or HDMI cable.
Can I use a monitor arm with a sit-stand desk?
Yes — all our arms are compatible with sit-stand desks. Make sure to leave enough cable slack for the full height range of your desk.
Still not sure which arm is right for you?
Tell us your monitor model and we'll confirm the right arm before you order.
